Background
The Project “Sustainability and Value-Added in the Agriculture Supply Chains I Cotton” implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ) is within the portfolio of the long-lasting development cooperation between India and Germany. In India, the GIZ project intends to support the promotion of sustainability and value addition in India’s cotton supply chain (from cotton seed to finished product), in close cooperation with the Ministry of Textiles and other implementation partners from public and private sector.
The developpp project “Digital solutions for substitution of hazardous chemicals in the Fashion Supply Chain” is a Strategic Alliance of four European fashion retailers and brands operating in global garment supply chains with GIZ. The project aim is to contribute to better working conditions by committing to reduce, and in the long term eliminate, the usage of hazardous chemicals across the production processes of the members of the Alliance, but also in the local industries. The project is focused on wet processing- pre-treatment, dyeing, finishing and printing. It is located in Bangladesh, China, India, Turkey, Ethiopia and Pakistan and steered by the Team Bangladesh.
The project “Sustainability and Value-Added in the Agriculture Supply Chains I Cotton” represents GIZ in the Strategic Alliance for India and ensures the local implementation.
Objective of the assignment : Transparency on chemical usage in textile supply chains is improved and the use of hazardous chemicals in wet processing facilities is reduced.
